Service & Repair Prices

Residential pricing; commercial work is quoted separately. Exact prices, bookable online right now at book.gograsshopper.com.

HOW MUCH DOES AN A/C OR HEATING TUNE-UP COST?

A tune-up is $78 for one system ($220 value). The A/C tune-up covers outdoor unit inspection and rinse, refrigerant check, filter change, indoor coil inspection, fan and blower motor amp draw checks, and drain flushing. The heating tune-up covers full system cleaning, filter change, drain flushing, flame sensor inspection, blower and inducer amp draw checks, and airflow monitoring. Additional systems can be added on your visit. Commercial systems excluded.

HOW MUCH IS A SERVICE CALL OR DIAGNOSTIC?

A diagnostic visit is $59 on weekdays and $159 evenings and weekends, for Heating, Cooling, Plumbing, or Electrical, same price for every trade. A Grasshopper tech finds the problem and gives you a flat repair price before any work starts. The clock is our problem, not yours, and the number cannot change after you say yes. Nothing gets repaired without your approval. Add a full year of maintenance membership at your visit for $30 more.

MY FURNACE OR A/C STOPPED WORKING. WHAT DOES IT COST TO GET IT FIXED?

Start with a diagnostic visit: $59 on weekdays, $159 evenings and weekends, for no heat, no cooling, no hot water, or any Heating, Cooling, Plumbing, or Electrical problem, 24/7 across the Capital Region. A Grasshopper tech finds the problem and hands you a flat repair price before any work starts, so an emergency never turns into an open-ended bill. Book online in two minutes or call 518-545-3271, answered around the clock.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO REPLACE A WHOLE HVAC SYSTEM, FURNACE AND A/C TOGETHER?

Replacing your furnace and central A/C as one project combines those two ranges: furnaces run $6,500 to $20,000 and central A/C runs $7,000 to $20,000 installed. Most homes doing both together land well under the combined tops, because the shared labor overlaps when the crew is already there. Pick the level of each that sounds like your house, and a BLINK rep locks your exact combined number on one call.

WHAT IS FLAT-RATE PRICING AND WHY DOES GRASSHOPPER USE IT?

Flat-rate means we price the outcome, not the clock. Before any repair starts, you get one flat number for the fix, and that number cannot creep after you say yes. If the job runs long, we carry that risk, not you. What we itemize is what actually protects you: the exact scope, the equipment, and your coverage, all verifiable in writing. When a price is engineered for your house and guaranteed on paper, it stops being a gamble and becomes a decision.

DOES GRASSHOPPER OFFER FINANCING OR MONTHLY PAYMENTS?

Yes. Most new systems can be financed through our lending partners, and one flat number covers everything either way. Typical lanes: a comfortable monthly plan around $130 to $250 per month, a faster payoff around $250 to $500 per month, or a 0% promotional option with no interest for 18 months on approved credit. Monthly figures are typical ranges, not quotes; exact terms print on your proposal. Pay in full works too: one number, once, no payments, no interest.

WHAT DOES THE MAINTENANCE MEMBERSHIP COST AND INCLUDE?

The maintenance membership is $130 per year and includes both seasonal tune-ups (cooling and heating), priority scheduling with urgent service within 72 hours during peak seasons, and 50% off your diagnostic fee.

How Would You Like To Invest?

Same system, same craft, same guarantees, whichever you choose. One flat number covers everything. The only question is how it leaves your pocket.

Pay in full. One number, once. Old school: paid outright, owned outright. No payments, no interest, done.
Comfortable monthly. $130 to $250 a month. The set-it-and-forget-it lane. The system earns its keep on the utility bill while you pay for it.
Faster payoff. $250 to $500 a month. Bigger slice, shorter runway. Own it sooner and pay less interest along the way.
0% promotional. No interest for 18 months. Every dollar goes to the system and none to interest for a year and a half, on approved credit.

Monthly figures are typical ranges, not quotes. Financing through our lending partners, on approved credit. Exact terms print on your proposal.

One Flat Price. Everything.

WE PRICE THE OUTCOME,
NOT THE CLOCK.

A flat rate means we carry the risk of a job running long, not you, and the price can’t creep after you say yes. There’s no hourly meter ticking in your basement and no end-of-job math. What we itemize is what actually protects you: the exact scope, the equipment, your coverage. All of it verifiable, all of it in writing. When it’s engineered for your house and guaranteed on paper, price stops being a gamble and becomes a decision.

Hidden pricing only helps the contractor. Published pricing helps the homeowner. We know which side we’re on.

New Equipment, Installed

These are honest ranges, not teasers. Where your home lands depends on the level you choose, your venting, your ductwork, and your electrical. Pick what feels like your house online, reserve with half down (fully refundable until you approve your final scope), and a BLINK™ rep calls to confirm your exact number.

HOW MUCH DOES A FURNACE REPLACEMENT COST IN THE CAPITAL REGION?

$6,500 TO $20,000installed

Furnace installation or replacement runs $6,500 to $20,000 installed in the Capital Region. What moves your number: the efficiency level (from a chimney-vented standard unit up to 95%, 96%, and 97% AFUE high-efficiency models), your home’s venting path, and whether you’re staying on oil or converting. At 95% AFUE and up, 95 cents or more of every gas dollar becomes heat in your home instead of going up the chimney. Oil furnaces land in the upper middle of the range, and if you’re replacing one anyway, we’ll show you the honest math on converting to gas or a heat pump. Sometimes oil is still the right call, and when it is, we’ll say so.

HOW MUCH DOES CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONING COST INSTALLED IN ALBANY, NY?

$7,000 TO $20,000installed

Central air conditioning, installed, runs $7,000 to $20,000, whether you call it a new AC unit, an air conditioner replacement, or central air. What moves your number: the efficiency level (13.4 SEER2 at today’s standard, up to 18 SEER2 at the top), matching the coil to your home’s size, and your ductwork. Higher SEER2 systems run longer, gentler cycles that pull humidity out of the house instead of blasting and quitting, which is most of what summer comfort actually is. If you’re replacing an A/C anyway, ask about a heat pump: for a few thousand more, the same project heats your home too.

HOW MUCH DOES A HEAT PUMP COST INSTALLED IN THE CAPITAL REGION?

$9,000 TO $24,000installed

A central air source heat pump, installed, runs $9,000 to $24,000. One system cools your home in summer and heats it efficiently through most of a Capital Region winter, with your existing backup heat covering the deepest cold snaps. What moves your number: capacity and efficiency (up to 20.5 SEER2 at the top of our line), your electrical panel, and your ductwork. Heat pumps are the most efficient option we install, and they may qualify for utility and state incentives your rep can walk you through.

HOW MUCH DOES A DUCTLESS MINI-SPLIT COST INSTALLED?

$4,000 TO $39,000installed

Ductless mini-splits (mini splits, ductless AC, same machine) price by zones, meaning how many rooms you’re conditioning. Standard models: 1 zone $4,000 to $9,000, 2 zones $8,000 to $15,000, 3 zones $13,000 to $23,000, 4 zones $17,000 to $26,000. MAX HEAT models, rated for real Northeast winters and built to heat your home even when January goes below zero: 1 zone $5,000 to $11,000, 2 zones $9,000 to $19,000, 3 zones $15,000 to $28,000, 4 zones $18,000 to $39,000. Standard is the answer for the bonus room, the addition, or the bedroom that never matches the rest of the house. MAX HEAT is the answer when the mini-split is your heat.

HOW MUCH DOES A BOILER REPLACEMENT COST IN THE CAPITAL REGION?

$8,000 TO $32,000installed

Boiler work, installed, runs $8,000 to $32,000, and the spread is honest: what you have now and what you’re moving to changes the job. A straight chimney-vented replacement sits at the low end. Direct vent sits lower to middle. Replacing a high-efficiency boiler with another one costs less than you’d guess, because your venting and condensate lines already exist. Upgrading from a standard boiler to high-efficiency costs more, because new sidewall venting and condensate work come with the jump. Combi conversions, one wall-hung unit for heat and endless hot water that replaces your water tank too, sit at the top. Steam boilers are their own craft, piped correctly with a Hartford loop, in the upper middle. Oil boilers land upper middle, and we’ll show you the conversion math while we’re at it.

HOW MUCH DOES A WATER HEATER COST INSTALLED IN ALBANY, NY?

$1,900 TO $10,000installed

Water heaters (yes, the thing most of us call a hot water heater) run $1,900 to $10,000 installed. Electric tanks sit at the low end: simple, dependable, no venting needed. Standard chimney-vented gas tanks sit low as well. Power vent gas units, which vent out the sidewall with a fan, sit in the middle. Tankless sits at the top: endless hot water on demand, wall-hung, the tank gone for good, and the answer for the busy house that keeps running out. We also install heat pump water heaters through our Energy Solutions team, priced on your BLINK call, and they may qualify for serious utility incentives.

HOW MUCH DOES A WHOLE-HOME STANDBY GENERATOR COST INSTALLED?

$9,000 TO $25,000installed

A standby generator, installed, runs $9,000 to $25,000, sized to what you want protected: the sump pump, the fridge, the heat, the medical equipment, the work-from-home setup. The power blinks, the generator starts itself, and your house just keeps being your house.

HOW MUCH DOES AN ELECTRICAL PANEL UPGRADE COST?

$2,500 TO $9,500installed

An electrical panel upgrade runs $2,500 to $9,500. This is the answer for the fuse box, the crowded 100-amp panel, and the EV charger with nowhere to plug in. It’s also the quiet prerequisite for a lot of modern equipment: heat pumps, generators, and multi-zone systems all lean on panel capacity.

Why Ranges And Not One Number

Because your house isn’t a chart. Two identical furnaces cost different amounts in two different basements, and any contractor who quotes you one price without seeing either is guessing with your money. So for every HVAC, plumbing, and electrical system we install, we publish the honest range, let you choose the level that sounds like your home, and lock your exact number on a quick BLINK™ call before a single dollar becomes final. Every level of every product gets the same installation. The price changes with the equipment. The craft never does.

Our Promises, In Writing

The price is the price. The number on your proposal is what you pay for the scope described. If we miss something, we absorb the cost. Not a penny more.
The $500 check. If we can’t get to you within 24 hours for a service or emergency call in your first year, we hand you a $500 check. Hotel or dinner, your call.
Your property, protected. If our team damages your property, we take care of every dollar. The insurance behind that promise prints on your proposal.
Engineered, not guessed. Every install starts with a Manual J calculation of your actual home. If it doesn’t hit the temperatures we agree on, we make it right.

A Note From Amanda

Amanda August, founder of Grasshopper

I started Grasshopper in 2016, right here in the Capital Region. I live here, I answer here, and my name is on every job we do, including yours. Most of the biggest names in home services are owned by private equity firms. Grasshopper is owned by a neighbor, and that changes how every decision gets made, including the decision to put this page on the internet.

People ask about the name. Grasshoppers only move forward. They physically can’t go backward, and neither do we. The way I’ve always put it: sometimes it’s okay to take two steps back, if it means you can move forward again. Publishing our prices wasn’t a strategy we copied from anyone. It’s just what forward looks like.
